The Third Annual Frankly Bob Arts Awards

The Frankly Bob awards 2003

In recognition that creativity in both written and visual arts is not exclusive to any socio-economic group, the Frankly Bob Arts Awards, honours the often-unrecognized achievements in the visual and written arts.

In co-operation with community groups who work with homeless people, Neighbourhood Innovations and the Toronto Dollar solicits submissions for the Frankly Bob Arts Award on an annual basis. Prizes will be awarded in both the visual and written arts as follows: 1st prize $300, 2nd prize $150, and four honourable mentions of $50 each. In addition, this year there will be an additional prize of $300 for written arts in French.

The Neighbourhood Innovations Fund is a donor-advised fund that operates through the Toronto Community Foundation, a registered charity. The intent of the fund is to provide supports to community-based innovations initiated by people who have experienced homelessness or long-term poverty.

Donations to the Neighbourhood Innovations Fund to support the Frankly Bob Arts Award can be made through the Toronto Community Foundation. Tax receipts will be issued.

The Toronto Dollar is a community currency whose mandate is to help in the building of a more caring society. With its origins in the St. Lawrence community of downtown Toronto, the Torornto Dollar is now welcomed in 200 businesses. 10% of all Canadian dollars exchanged for Toronto Dollars goes to support community projects.

The Frankly Bob Arts Awards is named after Bob Lowthian, the first elected resident mayor of Streetcity. Greatly respective for his leadership and support to his peers, Bob encouraged many people to explore their creative spirit.

The awards were open to any individual who has experienced homelessness or long-term poverty and lives within the boundaries of the City of Toronto.
