About the Design

Toronto Dollar is a non-profit organization dedicated to building a community of caring generous individuals an organization with the purpose of making life in Toronto better for those less fortunate. To this end I designed this new web site to further those goals by installing applications to allow and promote the growth of this fine community through the use of on-line tools like email newsletters, chat rooms, discussion forums and more. Using feedback tools like Polls and surveys, the Toronto Dollar organization can keep in touch with its constituency and keep abreast of what it wants and needs. The software titles installed, by and large, besides being free and open source, are easy to use content managers which allow Toronto Dollar organizers, staff, board members, volunteers, merchants and grant recipients, as well as the general public, to keep the content on the site fresh, new and up to date. Allowing the constituents of the Toronto Dollar community to manage their own content in an easy to use fashion, will build the feeling of ownership, and belonging in the community. An important by product of this design approach also serves to relieve this low overhead organization the cost of having a web developer/designer constantly updating the content manually.
